HUMAN PERFORMANCE STARTS AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL
Science-led hypoxic training in Edinburgh for athletes, mountaineers and adventurous people.
Improve your preparation for altitude, enhance endurance and explore innovative training methods built around one simple principle: helping your body adapt to reduced oxygen.
Whether you're pushing your limits in sport, preparing for a marathon, planning a climbing expedition to the Himalayas, or simply want to know how your body can feel at altitude before committing to that trek in Nepal, every programme is individually designed and grounded in current scientific evidence.
WHY HYPOXIC TRAINING?
Every cell in your body relies on oxygen to produce energy.
When oxygen availability is carefully reduced in a controlled environment, your body activates natural adaptive responses that have been studied in exercise physiology for decades. These adaptations can influence how efficiently oxygen is delivered and utilised, support altitude acclimatisation, and improve aerobic performance.
At our Edinburgh studio, we use simulated altitude to help prepare your body for the demands of sport, adventure and high-altitude environments or simply improve health.
THE SCIENCE OF ADAPTATION
Hypoxic training doesn't simply make exercise feel harder—it challenges your body to become more efficient.
Research suggests carefully programmed hypoxic exposure can stimulate physiological adaptations including:
Improved oxygen utilisation
Activation of hypoxia-responsive cellular pathways (including HIF signalling)
Adaptations associated with mitochondrial function and energy metabolism
Improved preparation for high-altitude environments
Enhanced aerobic efficiency in appropriate training programmes
Rather than chasing quick fixes, we focus on evidence-based strategies that work alongside your existing training.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Endurance Athletes
Marathon runners, ultra runners, hyrox competitors, swimmers, cyclists, triathletes… You name it…
Mountaineers & Climbers
Prepare for Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, Aconcagua, Denali, the Alps or the Himalayas with structured altitude preparation before you leave home.
Adventurers
Whether you're trekking to Everest Base Camp, Patagonia or the Andes, arriving better acclimatised can make your experience safer, more enjoyable and more rewarding.
Curious Minds
You don't have to be an elite athlete to experience hypoxia. Whether you're preparing for a trek, wondering how your body can respond to altitude, or simply interested in the science of human performance, you're welcome to experience simulated altitude in a safe, controlled environment. You don’t even have to do a workout, you can simply sit, relax, breathe with a cup a tea.
Busy Professionals
Improve fitness and resilience through efficient, personalised sessions that fit around your schedule.
WHY TRAIN WITH US?
Science-Led
Founded by an immunology researcher with more than a decade of experience in biomedical science. Every programme is built around current research, not fitness trends.
Real Altitude Experience
Everest. Denali. Aconcagua, Mont Blanc…
Real-world knowledge gained through independent expeditions—not just laboratory theory.
Personalised Coaching
Every programme is tailored to your experience, fitness level and objectives. No generic training plans. No one-size-fits-all approach.
Evidence Before Hype
We believe in honest science. Where evidence is strong, we'll explain it. Where research is still emerging, we'll tell you that too.
ABOUT LUCIA
I'm Lucia Janičová—an immunology researcher, mountaineer and endurance athlete with a passion for understanding how the human body adapts to extreme environments.
After more than ten years working in biomedical research, I became fascinated by the science of hypoxia and human performance. That curiosity took me beyond the laboratory to some of the world's highest mountains, including Everest and self supported Denali, where I experienced first-hand the challenges of performing in low-oxygen environments.
Today, I combine scientific knowledge with real expedition experience to help athletes, mountaineers and adventurers prepare more effectively for their own goals through evidence-informed hypoxic training.
My passion for human performance extends beyond altitude physiology to nutrition and evidence-based supplementation, and I'm always happy to discuss practical strategies that can support training, recovery and expedition performance. While no supplement replaces consistent training, the right nutritional approach can make a meaningful difference to performance, recovery and overall health.
